In summer, the sun's rays hit the Earth at right angles. Light doesn't travel much. Thereby increasing the amount of energy that reaches any point. In addition, long daylight hours give the Earth enough time to reach warm temperatures. In summer, heat affects not only the earth but also everything in it.
