In 2021, BMW will bring a purely electrically powered four-door model onto the market. It is based on the 4 Series Gran Coupé and will be called the BMW i4. Now BMW has published the first pictures and a video of the electric 4-series. The i4 is a "Gran Coupe" with four doors and a long wheelbase, which indicates a body that is at least 4.60 meters long.

The BMW i4, which will be in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3, has a range of 590 kilometres according to WLTP and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4 seconds. The 550 kg lithium-ion batteries have a capacity of around 80 kWh.

The BMW i4 electric car comes on the market in three versions. At the market launch, there is the BMW i440 with rear-wheel drive with around 330 hp and an optional boost function. The model should cost around 48,000 euros.

The BMW i4 M50 is the only all-wheel-drive model with two electric motors to be launched. It costs between 58,000 and 60,000 euros and delivers 530 hp including a boost function.

The basic model, the BMW i435, comes onto the market a little later. It also has a 280 hp electric motor on the rear axle.

In the interior, the BMW i4 electric car will feature the latest I-Drive technology.

The range and performance indicate that BMW is primarily targeting the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model S as opponents. The production of the BMW i4 will start at the main plant in Munich in summer 2021. According to the current status, the first copies are to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.
