Aptera Motors from California has begun accepting reservations for its three-wheeled solar-powered electric vehicle, which the company says would have a range of up to 1,000 miles (about 1,600 kilometres).

The three-wheeled battery electric vehicle weighs between 816 and 998 kilograms, and with all-wheel drive it should be able to go from 0 to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds. Top speed should be 180 km/h.

Aptera Motors estimates the drag coefficient (CW) to be just 0.13, which means a consumption value of 100 watt-hours of energy per mile or 62 watt-hours per kilometre. For comparison, the Tesla Model 3 has a drag coefficient of CW 0.23.

The Aptera electric vehicle would be enabled with the latest rapid electric charging systems. This is a very important point considering that the solar cell system can only generate additional energy and cannot cover that part of the vehicle's needs.
